I went to Denver/Colorado Springs for the week. It was a great time to be in those "Wild at Heart" moments, however cliche that may sound in the Christian realm, haha, but the fact that all John Eldridge's books were inspired by all the places I was hiking in, really brought about a good time with the Lord. Plus I was with my super pregnant sister and brother inlaw, and all his cousins, so it had the feel of a college road trip as well. We did Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, hiked the Rockies Resevoirs, went to the Rockies Baseball game.... Another stadium and game I can check off my list of wanting to see a game in every stadium in the country. It was a great trip, but I am glad to be back home on the sweaty Gulf Coast :), no chapstick needed here, and i missed the palm trees, well any tree for that matter, haha. Next week I will be in Chicago, then back home in East Texas, then over to West Texas to go to my sister's baby shower. Here are some pics, have a great week!

hmmm

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_Mnm_B84gs3M/RnLOYhulRhI/AAAAAAAAAEU/yur99IpGbeE/s400/Crackberry.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076346650765903378" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_Mnm_B84gs3M/RnLOQxulRgI/AAAAAAAAAEM/rNxGj8StYF0/s400/untitled.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076346517621917186" />

Well i leave for vacation on Monday! Even on the drive home yesterday in the traffic report, the radio announcer was telling everyone to put together their hurricane survival box. Wow! Granted I will be more cautious this time, than when I lived in The Woodlands, even though I evacuated then as well. I am only 40 miles from the gulf now, so I will evacuate if the Mega Storm decides to hit the Houston-Galveston Gulf Coast. It kind of cracks me up at what I call the Post Katrina-Rita Hysteria here in Htown. I mean granted we swallowed up most of New Orleans residents after Katrina, and nearly all died ourselves in Rita until it turned away at the last minute, but calm down people, don't start driving the contraflow lanes on 290 just yet, that's just normal rush hour traffic! Speaking of Contraflow, I like the nifty little paintings on the shoulders of all the freeways. Nothing like seeing the big blue and white hurricane symbol painted on the lanes with arrows telling you to keep going away from it, haha. Anyways, contributing to the hysteria about June 1st (We'll call it Windy Friday, kinda like Black Tuesday, you get my drift), here are some survival tips.... I have to admit I stole a few from Houstonist and the Houston Press, but they are good tips.... Then I will follow with for real hurricane tips from the Houston-Galveston Emergency People....

First I bring pictures of Hurricane Memories:

Now for the Tips:

1-- Make a Music CD: The only way music can get you through another Rita-traffic episode is for you to make a mixtape so inutterably horrible that it -- combined with 100-degree heat, gulf coast humidity, exhaust fumes and no relief in sight -- renders you into a zombie state from which you will emerge hours later, never remembering what happened.

2-- Get religious! Start praying June 1 and don't stop until November, for those of you that live past the seawall.

3-- Buy ridiculous amounts of flashlights and batteries, because even though you are evacuating you'll need to light up your car like Reliant Stadium, or for those pee trips at midnight while you are sitting in traffic in some East Texas swamp.

4-- If you don't evacuate, and you are faced with an imminent flood, tornado, hurricane or other natural disaster, the first thing you must do is pick a fight with your spouse or roommate. At some point during the weather event you’ll probably be without power - meaning no TV or Internet - so you’ll need something to occupy your time.

And more tips that are in this nice little sheet I found on HoustonPress.com:

1. Buy three outrageously oversize cans of some otherwise
ignored foodstuff like baked beans (Remember: Get at least
a two years’ supply!)
2. Throw out the unused large cans from last year to make
room for this year’s cans
3. Buy enough batteries to power Portland for three months
4. Purchase a complicated and bizarre battery-operated
contraption that features a short-wave radio, black-andwhite
TV, flashlight, coffee grinder and calculator
5. When lights go out, explain 50 times to kids that the
battery-powered TV doesn’t get Nickelodeon
6. Purchase large amounts of sickly sweet Hurricane mix,
never to be used
7. Get a Mardi Gras CD for the Hurricane party you’ll
eventually not have
8. Stock up on plywood; after almost killing yourself, decide two
windows into the job that this storm won’t be bad enough to
need plywood
9. Fill up the gas tank, then refill it every time it gets less
than nine-tenths full
10. Get enough ammo to handle a week’s worth of looters.
By God, they’ll have to pry those cans of baked beans from
your cold, dead fingers

Ok no really:

Here is the Chronicle's Hurricane Central Website: http://www.chron.com/news/specials/hurricane/

Check your ZIP to see if you are mandatory evacuated as well as the arrows for evacuation and contraflow lanes:

http://images.chron.com/content/news/photos/07/05/21/hurricanemap.pdf

There you go, now go freak yourself out, hehe.

the local hero....

So the police chief for my campus building takes down a car thief that escaped from the downtown jail. Nice! But seriously, the thief wasn't that smart, that jail is 2 (I repeat 2) blocks away, and the guy had been out for over 30 hours, and he was still 2! blocks away from the place he broke out of, on the bayou ,where there is always a police presence. Seriously, what an idiot! I am laughing out loud just thinking about it. I mean hello the MetroRail is right there, at least right it down to Bell or the DTC and take a bus outta here. HAHA, the fact that he was caught basically on the same sidewalk up the street from where he was in jail at is really funny. Anyways, I rest my case, but he gets the vote for idiot of the day. Now if we could only get the other campus cops to quit eating over at Houston's Soul Food and fight crime within our building, that would be great!

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4849513.html

Bonehead move of the Year perhaps....

Well a lot has happened.... I am still pissed about the Immigration bill. Mitt Romney is quickly becoming my favorite candidate. Something about him, I like! Maybe it's the good hair, we know how well I treat my hair, but I think it's deeper than that. We'll see in the months to come.... Now that Freddie might throw his hat in and run, my opinion might change. So I am calling it know, I "COULD" change my mind about who I want to endorse for 2008....

Memorial Day was a snoozer.... It rained all weekend, I spent all Day Sunday at NASA with my aunt and uncle and little cousin.... It was fun, but I was really tired. Monday it was flooding, so I didn't even leave the apt. until that night when my new roomie Michael and I went to my favorite Kroger over in West U. You know the Kroger with the live Music band.... Yes you heard correctly that's how us West U/River Oaks people roll. Never mind the fact that me and my friends Victor and Jen had a half hour conversation at PF Changs about how amazing that Kroger is, and the fact that we are losers for just going there to kill time.... When did we turn into Yuppies, I think it was when I decided to buy Seersucker shorts from JCrew last week. Don't hate, it's the staple of the South....

Moving on.... Get this bonehead from Atlanta. He has TB! But proceeds to go to Europe with his newlywed wife, then sneak back into the US via Canada! WTH! You have TB your doctor said don't leave, then you did, and they told you to stay in Italy, but you didn't! You my friend are an idiot, can't wait to see if any civil cases come out of this if anyone actually caught it from this bonehead....

Here are some quotes from this genius:

I thought to myself: You're nuts. I wasn't going to do that. They told me I had been put on the no-fly list and my passport was flagged," the man said.
He told the newspaper he and his wife decided to sneak back into the U.S. through Canada. He said he voluntarily went to a New York hospital, then was flown by the CDC to Atlanta.
He is not facing prosecution, health officials said.
"I'm a very well-educated, successful, intelligent person," he told the paper. "This is insane to me that I have an armed guard outside my door when I've cooperated with everything other than the whole solitary-confinement-in-Italy thing."

Uh---the "whole solitary-confinement-in-Italy thing." Did he really just say that!!!! YOU DID NOT COOPERATE!
Yeah you are well educated alright, usually educated people know health risks and obey doctors and the USA's orders.... Oy, he's probably a democrat too, maybe he got a taste of universal healthcare over there and what it's really like....

Then there was a fire....

This really reminded me of 9/11, now you can see why i was freaking out as fire trucks ambulances and helicopters were everywhere and I was trapped in it.

So this is the Westpark about 5 blocks from my apt.

Ariel....

So yesterday in my neighborhood there was a big explosion that i saw as i was leaving my apt. from lunch.... I really thought we were under attack, the smoke was awful, people running out, no power, no phones, etc.... I was trapped in my car on Richmond in Greenway, and it was chaotic, with all the sirens, etc.... I really thought the "bad guys" hit.... Turns out that it was a huge electrical substation at buffalo speedway and 59, but let's say i was panicking when my phone was jammed, and i saw the haz mat crews fly by, fire trucks from the 'Tre' come by.... Fox News did a great job, and not just saying that because I am a right wing nut job, but I thought it was very good moderating.

Let's see what else. It's been a week....

Last night I thwarted a major possible terrorist attack in Houston. Long story, but lets just say a weird dude left his backpack stuffed under his chair at MMP during the Astros game next to me, and left.... I got freaked out, bc I had a backpack unattended for a while, so me and my roomie went and told the Usher who got an actual Homeland Security person, and then HPD, etc, then low and behold in the 3rd inning, the guy comes back.... Let's just say he was escorted out. It was scary ya'll. My roomie downed about 8 beers after that to take the "edge" off, i just had really bad stomach cramps (wait that's always true for me). So i think he was just a stupid tourist, but why would you leave a giant backpack unattended with 30,000 people around.... As he was being escorted out I noticed he had a Texas Tech t-shirt on.... Ahh--it makes sense now, he was just an idiot. Dang TechTards! So that's the short story a little more went on, but I can tell you about it later.

BTW, the Anti-Hillary group has over 290,000 members. Woohoo!

And today at work I found another Conservative friend! Who knew! I am not the only one in liberal loony land! Praise the Lord!

snooze.

not much happening the past few days.... move a long, nothing to see here :)

Praise the Lord, the FBI/NJ Authorities caught more MUSLIM-ISLAMIC terrorists planning to disrupt us in the USA. This could be why. I mean seriously, how lazy are liberals that they can't pull a driver's license out of their back pocket and flash it for a second before they go vote.... Wait, most libs/"Dems" don't event vote, they just complain.

So I was unable to watch the MSNBC Biased Debate---more like questionnaire last night, although I have watched a lot of clips of it. Wow, that was not a debate, it was more like Chris Matthews wanting just to argue. Anyway, these debates have no meaning until the fall in my opinion. And I honestly think we can win in 2008. I think we will have another Republican in the White House.... It is a big city-wide "missions" type event we put on in the inner city each summer. I had the privilege last summer working as the youth director at one site and this summer I get to be it again. My site leaders and I had a meeting yesterday and it was great. They are a young married couple, my age, but married, aren't they all.... Well, they are just as crazy about politics as me, and invited me over to a Sunday Brunch with the Daughters of Liberty-Republican Women. It was a blast, and men can join too! So I did! I got to meet our Congressman John Culberson, who represents my district in Houston, and several conservative City Council runners for this May's Special Election. It was great, best of it was it was in the Tanglewood area and was at a giant mansion.... Who owns it, you ask??? The very people who have half of the HMNS named after them. Amazing house, amazing people. So it's nice I have political friends that are as into as I am, and I will be working closely with them on this church project! John Culberson was great, he talked a lot about immigration, which was good, we need hard-line Republicans that believe in real immigration ENFORCEMENT, not reform as Bush likes to call it. Also May 12th is Special Election voting, Early voting starts today. If you live in the City of Houston which includes Clear Lake, and Kingwood, vote! We need more conservatives running this city! Roy Morales, and Tom Nixon are good candidates, as well as Anne Clutterbuck (who is my neighborhood council woman for the UK/West U area. Other than that fun random road trip to meet with Houston's top Republican families, it was a nice weekend outside as well. I didn't get a chance to go to the International Festival this year, much to my attempt to get people to go with me, but I heard it was a success. And I have added a new favorite website! www.houstonist.com it's a blog about Houston! Who knew, haha! Also check out www.houstondowntown.com It has a Spring Calendar up of all the events going on in the downtown, innerloop areas. Check it out. They have done great things with the Bayou and are having a lot of events on the Promenade down on Sabine-Bagby. I am not trying to be like Houstonist's blog, but I try to highlight the cool happenings that go on in this amazing city, because a lot of people just don't know or don't care, and prefer to just go eat at Chili's and go to the movie, why not experience the 4th (soon to be 3rd) largest city in the country and all it's sports, broadways, museums, art, concerts, and nature, and not be all white-suburban kids.

so long rosie-o

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5058184973126437698" style="FLOAT: left; (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she sees her sometimes Southern accent as a virtue.
"I think America is ready for a multilingual president," Clinton said during a campaign stop at a charter school in Greenville, S.C.
The New York senator—who said she's been thinking about critics who've suggested that she tried to put on a fake Southern accent in Selma, Ala.—noted that she's split her life between Arkansas, Illinois and the East Coast.
Clinton added a Southern lilt to her voice last week when addressing a civil rights group in New York City headed by the Rev. On Monday, dealing with a microphone glitch at a fundraiser for young donors, she quoted former slave and underground railroad leader Harriet Tubman.
The two episodes prompted some ribbing in the media and hatched more than a few humorous YouTube video clips.
Clinton is a linguistic polyglot—a Chicago native turned New York resident who works in Washington and spent two decades living in Arkansas when her husband, Bill Clinton, was governor.
But observers have long noted her tendency to speak Southern primarily in front of black audiences, as she did with Sharpton last week and at a civil rights commemoration in Selma in March.
All the Democrats are vying for the support of black voters—a crucial constituency especially in the early voting state of South Carolina. In 2004, black voters comprised nearly 50 percent of the state's Democratic primary turnout.

Read on at www.drudgereport.com

Um last time i checked Hillary---multilingual does not mean changing your voice in front of black people.... Thanks Ruthless for the encouragement. Our Barnaby's lunches have gotten quite interesting, especially considering our talk and the neighborhood it is in, haha.... Well, I was really discouraged about the place I work at, let's just say it's no A&M or Auburn, or Clemson.... Not a true conservative voice here at my place of employment. I went over to the library, and was appalled at the display box of books....
1) State of Denial by Bob Woodward (lame)
2)The Audacity of Hope by Obama Osama Himself (the audacity of the publisher is more like it)
3)Dixie-How the Democrats can Win the South again.... couldn't remember the author....
Liberal Bias? I think MUCH! So let's just say Jrod has got his cranky thinking cap on. And yes Michelle, I am happy, just so you know. I like to consider it part of my charm--the cranky thinking cap that is....

Well, the Dems decided to of course rip the carpet out from the troops, but what I find really really funny is they claim a "New Direction," "America has Spoken," "the people voted for change" From my personal experience working the 2006 GOP elections in St. Louis and all over the Mizzou countryside, the Dems barely won.... So get that piece of Sheryl Crow one piece of toilet paper out of your butt.... You barely won. Yeah Yeah I know, a W is a W, and Loss is a Loss.... But don't come claiming you saved the world like Jesus saved us, when the vote passed 218-208, on party lines.... That my friend is not 2/3rds. Same goes for the Senate, again mostly party lines except for Hagel, who is a traitor and a midwestern pain in the butt.... We all know how i feel about the Midwest anyways--point proven.

So my boy W, even though I disagree on a few things with him, at least he still has the power granted to him by the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to veto this pork piggy piggy bill. Let's see the Princess of Syria Pelosi try to get her people to not load it with so much crap the next time around and pass a decent bill.... Which we all know they will have too, because they don't have enough balls to pull the carpet out from under our troops. Thank God they are Cowards in that sense. I am actually enjoying watching this Democratic Meltdown of sorts.... Promise all the loony, mostly uneducated about politics voters one thing, and in reality you can't deliver, you knew that all along....

A lot has happened in the past month.... Virginia Tech, NASA, several other incidents in Houston (all of us Houstonians know about them) and other incidents around the country, it really leaves me with a heavy heart. My prayers continue to go out to the VA Tech family. I was really impressed how the Aggie Family came to the aid, as well as other groups across the country.

I have been following http://www.redstate.com/ the past week, and they got enough support ($$$$) to go to Iraq and report what our liberal friends over at CNN, MSNBS, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, NYtimes, LAtimes, Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, Miami Herald, and the SFgate don't report....

It is really interesting the people they talk too, and the opportunities they have to see a country rebuild as a democracy.... I applaud them and their heart to show us another side of the story.

Let's continually pray for General Petraeus, and our troops, as well as Dr. (Secretary) Gates (WHOOP!) for their continued perseverance in this War! Don't let the defeatocrats get you down conservative peeps!

In reference to the pic above; If the dems get their way, this is going to be the new training for our military....

Signing off---and I am off....

New Type of Blog....

I have decided to change the format and talk of my blog.... I believe in small government, low taxes, immigration reform--REAL immigration reform, I believe in the War on Terror, and staying on the offense, I support our President, I support our troops, I support the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.... My little sister came into town to watch the Broadaway Show over at Hobby Center for 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. It is her favorite movie, so I went with her to the broadway, and it was a lot of fun. We all know how sports consumes my life, but I do have a little appreciation for theater/music, etc. Mostly since I moved to Houston and realized that we have the 2nd largest Theater District/Companies behind New York ( a little Houston trivia for you). Next week I am going to see Wicked with my best married friends. I am excited about that one too. Ok, enough about artsy crap.... Let's talk sports. The Aggies play Memphis (Memfrika as all my Rhodes College friends like to call it) tonight in SAtown. I am already on the verge of a breakdown and nervous as heck. Last weekend I was in Abilene visiting my sister and their CBS station went out during the A&M/L'ville game, my sister and I who understandably have a love for basketball since we have played it our entire lives, went in to catastrophe mode, what do we do! Well luckily the gym they work out at is about 5 minutes from their house--we made it there in 2 1/2 and hogged the treadmills in front of the tv showing the game. We are ghetto like that. My sister freaked out when she stepped into the gym, because she thought in the rush to change into workout clothes to look like we were really there to work out, that she forgot to put on shorts, lol, she thought she was just in her underwear, that was a good laugh, anyways after making quite a scene at the gym jumping up and down, high fiving, semi walking and running on the treadmill, we won the game..... Now tonight is a whole new ball game! I am praying that we win, yes I pray about sports more than I probably pray for family and friends--I am still working on it people. So Gig 'Em Ags, and beat the hell outta Memfrika!!!! WHOOP!!!! Ok, so i just got in from lunch I went outside to the deck on our building which is on the 3rd floor and it overlooks the entire downtown skyline, pretty nice actually, too bad I hate my job and want to throw myself off the deck into the bayou, but that's beside the point. So seriously there were about 3 people out there eating at some of the tables as well, and this one homeless man----yes i turned on my homeless magnet again today---- proceeds to stand about 3 feet away from me and start feeding the birds. So I am trying to eat a salad and now i have a slew of pigeons all around me, thank you homeless man. Oh and I got a parking ticket in our own garage today! Bc I did the whole Create-A-Space that we do everyday... I was not about to park in our surface lot, since there are about 6 assaults there that have happened in the past 2 weeks, so I figured it was worth the 10 dollar ticket since I didn't bring my shank to work to protect myself.... That's all for now....

Houston Recap 2005-2007

For those of you who i haven't talked to in a while, I do live in Houston, and love this city. It is one of the best kept secrets in the Great US of A! But I thought I would recap some of my more funnier moments as i learn to be street smart and adjust to living in the middle of a city of 6 million people.... I moved in fall of 2005 to Htown (as I will be calling it throughout my blog) and lived in The Woodlands, the preppy upscale suburb on the northside. I lived there for a year, with my Aunt and Uncle who graciously let me live for free. I worked for the Astros that fall, and got to see the World Series (WHOOP!), then began my job working for U of H. So let's begin with Hurricane Katrina and Rita. That was fun, move to town and then have 2 hurricanes change the Houston area, one with 250,000 new citizens that moved here, the other, causing me to sit in my car at 3am on a backroad for 12 hours. I'll never forget seeing people just pop a squat on the freeway and relieve themselves. Then I realized I have a unique gift, not sure if it comes from the Lord or not, but homeless people love me. I have a giant magnet on me somewhere I have yet to find, that sucks them to me. So after one guy tried to jump in my car downtown one evenign after work, I learned not to leave my windows down all the way, especially after I nearly cut his fingers off as I frantically tried to raise my window up. Then I rode the Metro Bus to work for a while and i was repeatedly serenaded by homeless people at the bus stop. The Woodlands/Spring bus stop was well known for being the "rich people" bus stop, so it attracted lots of homeless people hoping to score some big bucks by showing off their musical talents.... My favorite was when a man broke out "It's the most wonderful time of the Year" at Christmas and proceeded to give a dramatic performance just to me, not the other 50 people in line for the bus. And that is the reason why I never have cash....
Let's see....
Now work is a whole different story, I have tons of stories that I would never be able to share on here, haha, one because they are too numerous, and two because well i would probably be fired. But let's just say, Shalitra's invisible hair extensions are a common lunch time activity, and the building I am in is a lot like the movie barber shop and beauty shop. I have learned a lot, and have a little ghetto to my step now. I have seen 2 dead bodies since working downtown, one floating face down in the bayou in front of my office, and another that got ran over by a big Ford truck. I have been hit on by some of the oddest creatures man and woman, and have seen a wide aray of every type of lifestyle known to man.... I moved inside the loop in June and love it. I never leave the loop, it is a completely different way of life compared to the suburbs. Hopefully I will never be a product of the suburbs again. Living inside the loop has it's own oddities. There are so many neighborhoods, with so many stereotypes.... I Live in River Oaks, which is probably the most famous neighborhood in the city as far as money and mansions and trees goes. Its a common joke that I drive an American car in River oaks, because you don't ever see things outside of Maseratis, Land Rovers, and BMW's in this neighborhood. But I like it, and I can walk to the store, the movies, shopping, and go run and workout in my neighborhood. So that's kind of a recap of the past 2 years. Crazy to think this country boy who thought A&M was a big city, now lives 4 miles from Downtown Houston. These days I work, workout, spend a lot of time thinking/talking/reading/studying/judging politics, and lots of sports watching :) By the way how about them Aggies---WHOOP Sweet Sixteen! That's all for now.

First Blog....

First Facebook, then Myspace, now a blog! I decided to give it a try, since several of my friends serving overseas and in the states in various capacities get to talk about their exciting lives on here. I figure since I work in the ghetto in the nation's 4th (soon to be third) largest city, I could share my stories about daily encouters in the Bayou City (houston, htown, screwston, texas gulf coast, space city) whatever you want to call it. So this is my first blog, it makes want to recap the past year and half of adventures of living here, so i may do a large blog chronicling life adjusting from a country boy, turned Aggie, turned big city boy.... so bear with me, updates coming soon.
